The game ran very smooth, and the servers were lag free. The online experience is quite good, and it is a nice change taking on an enemy other than the computer. The levels do seem to follow the usual ‘build up your army then storm the bad guys’ approach but Gameloft have done a good job of throwing in a few separate missions which keep the gameplay varied. This brings the total number of playable levels to around 16, which is astonishing considering the detail put into each one. This is then followed by a further two sections where you take on the role of different races in the game. The main campaign is split into three sections, with the first being the Consortium Campaign. With regards to the gameplay, I could not believe how in depth the game was. Whether it be selecting your troops by using the innovative ‘pinch’ feature of iOS, or switching from one side of the map to the other with a simple scrubbing of the map in the top right, this game seems so well suited to the iPad. So many games are built to suit a controller, but a touch screen for a game like this is a perfect fit. Another great advantage Starfront: Collision has over other RTS games is the platform with which it is aimed at. This is quite refreshing considering the sheer amount of resources that most other RTS games have.
Xenodium, is one of just two resources you use in the game, the other being Energy. This is a resource that, as is the norm for these games, everybody on the planet is after. When you first load the game, a video gives you the backstory which seems to revolve around a highly sought after material called Xenodium. Starfront: Collision HD takes place on Sinistral, a planet colonized by human mining conglomerate, the Consortium.

Gameloft has taken full advantage of the device’s capabilities with their latest RTS. With its multi-touch functionality and its large 9.7-inch display, it’s almost as if Apple developed the iPad for use with Real Time Strategy games.
